Young skiers who take to slopes would have to take a children’s ski helmet along under a new law proposed in Sacramento. California Sen. Leland Yee introduced the bill last week. It would require children under 18 to don a kid’s ski helmet. Children who ignore the new law will cause their parents to be fined .. the California Ski Industry Association (CSIA) is backing the proposed law.
A study showing that kids ski helmets can cut the risk of head injury by fifty percent inspired Sen Lee to draft the bill.
The suggested bill has its opponents. Private choice and freedom and the role of Government in personal lives was in the forefront of Republican Tom Harman, who opposes the bill.
